Administrative Zones

A geographical, semi-political subdivision of Earth under the auspices of the UN. The African Administrative Zone (AfAZ) includes all land south of the Suez Canal. The North American Administrative Zone (NAmAZ) includes all land north of the Panama Canal. The South American Administrative Zone (SAmAZ) includes all land south of the Panama Canal. The European Administrative Zone (EAZ) includes all land west of longitude 29º East. The Asian Administrative Zone (AAZ) includes all land east of longitude 29º East (including the continent previously known as Australia). The Oceanic Admin-istrative Zone (OAZ) includes all islands regardless of location.

Age of Majority

The age at which an individual is considered emancipated and can enter into contracts and make their own life choices. For those born on Earth, it is 16 Earth years; for those born on Enya, it is 16 Enya years.

Aikman, Paris

Daughter of Joe and Lily Aikman. Studied medicine under Dr. Julian Hardesty and Dr. LoriLynn Carpenter at the Xanadu Regional Hospital and received her MD in 0013 E.T., the first homegrown physician on Enya.

Alabaster Range

One of the four major mountain ranges of Gaia’s Crystal Highlands, it extends eastward from the Crystal Nexus almost to the coast of the Great Northeastern Ocean and is the least impressive of Gaia’s four mountain ranges but does contain The Durda Deep. The Alabaster Range forms the southern boundary of Outback Quadrant and the northern boundary of East Farthing Quadrant.

Annex

The term describing the buildings surrounding the Executive Building housing the six ECC departments, e.g., Operations Annex for the Department of Operation’s building.

Aragon River

A large river that originates in The Avalons and flows generally west and south through Xanadu Quadrant. Approximately halfway along the river’s path to the Great Southwestern Ocean, it branches into two slightly smaller rivers: The Elvira River that flows to the west and the CeeDee River that flows to the south; both the CeeDee River and the Elvira River empty into the Great Southwestern Ocean.

Arms Room, The

A room in the underbuilding of Lovettschyr Mansion where those weapons and accessories which are not pre-positioned in strategic locations throughout the Mansion are stored. It is climate controlled and locked.

Avalons, The

One of the four major mountain ranges of Gaia’s Crystal Highlands. The Avalons extend southward from the Crystal Nexus almost to the Great Southwestern Ocean. It forms the western boundary of East Farthing Quadrant and the eastern boundary of Xanadu Quadrant.

Aye-a

Colloquial name for Intipa Awachan, the star system’s central, class G5V star around which orbit 12 planets.

Badlands, The

An area of central Outback Quadrant that borders on the Great Northeastern Ocean characterized by extremely rough, rocky terrain that contains a large percentage of Enya’s mineral reserves and the only known source of Black Enyanite and White Enyanite. It is the location of Beaumont Lovett’s Stone Mountain Steading and his Stone Mountain Mining and Milling Company.

Bailey, The

The “front yard” of The Keep. It is bisected by The Monarch’s Walk. Contrary to the historical definition of the bailey of a castle, The Bailey is not surrounded by a wall. Large gardens composed of both indigenous plants and plants imported from Earth, along with Vanilla Grass, make The Bailey fragrant and colorful.

Banishment

A person on Enya found guilty of one of the five capital crimes is taken to the island of Elba off the south-eastern coast of East Farthing Quadrant with six months of food and several survival tools and abandoned.

Baron/Baroness

The sixth most senior level of peerage. If the recipient of the letters patent has a Union Partner, the Partner shares the title; if the recipient of the letters patent has a cohab, the cohab does not share in the title. Not inheritable.

Barrier Reach

A 400-kilometer-wide channel separating the island of Elba from Land’s End. It is an area of rapid currents, undertows and dangerous marine life.

Base Heinlein

A permanently occupied base once located on the Peary crater located on the bright side of the moon close to the lunar north pole. Established in 2170 C.E., its normal population of researchers, scientists and staff was 200, although that figure varied from day to day.

Beautyberry

An indigenous plant almost identical to Earth’s Beautyberry (Callicarpa americana), it grows profusely in Xanadu Quadrant but can be found throughout Gaia. A mature plant is between one and two meters high and one or two meters wide, with numerous purple berries grouped together at points along a spindly branch. While the Callicarpa americana of Earth is astringent, the Enyan Beautyberry contains a high level of fructose and is popular with native birds, animals and humans.

Bertone, Samuel Booker (Sam)

A mafia-like figure who created the first criminal gang on Enya, initially specializing in extortion.

Big Cat

Enya’s equivalent of Earth’s mountain lion or cougar, a Big Cat can be found in every Gaia biome. The Big Cats found in the forests (Sherwood Forest, for example) are slightly smaller than those found in the grasslands and savannahs of Gaia (such as the Hill Country in Xanadu Quadrant or The New Serengeti in East Farthing Quadrant). Another difference between the two main types of Big Cats on Enya is that the ones inhabiting the grasslands run faster than those in the forests do. Neither Big Cat, however, considers humans as targets. Its young are called “kits,” short for “kittens.”

Black Death Ground

The triple-canopy jungle covering the northern third of East Farthing Quadrant, bounded on the north by the Alabaster Range, on the east by the Great Northeastern Ocean and on the south by The Elderwoods. Its name derives from the death of Fiona Lambert from a black saber-toothed tiger while she was a member of Survey Team 42.

Black, Annie

Pilot of the shuttle Gossamer Five. Inducted into the Order of Enya as a knight by Queen Friday I in 0015.

Blank, Sergeant Neville

The Security Officer in charge of the team sent to Haven House, Stone Mountain Steading to take Beaumont Winston Lovett, Kirtland Alba Burke Lovett and Nanci Arpeggio Lovett-Burke into custody.

A hand-held, frequency-flexible, portable radio used by the Security Section of the Ministry of Operations.

Bozworth, Dr. Brandon Aloysius

Department Head of ECC’s Infrastructure Department and member of ECC’s BOD. Has alopecia areata universalis (no body hair). Doctoral degrees in Civil Engineering, Materials Management as well as Complex Civil Structures. Assumed duties as Minister of Infrastructure on January 01, 0015. Inducted into the Order of Enya as a knight by Queen Friday I in 0015.

Brandywine River

A wide, placid river in Xanadu Quadrant originating in the foothills of the Crystal Highlands and terminating in Impact Harbor. It is navigable until it reaches its headwaters, a collection of tributaries called The Spaghetti Factory.

Buffadillo

A large, indigenous, grazing bovine that looks like a cross between a buffalo and an armadillo. It is about two-and-a-half meters in height, a meter-and-a-half in width and about four meters in length with a long tail and a carapace covering the body. A placid animal unless threated, it travels in huge herds. The meat tastes a lot like Earth’s prime rib but leaner. A male Buffadillo is called a bull, while a female Buffadillo is called an Elsie.

Buns’ Buildings

The preeminent architectural and construction company on Enya. It is headed by Sire Rebecca Mari “Buns” Zumwalt. Among the company’s accomplishments are the Starlight HyperLoop Station, the Three Sisters’ HyperLoop Station and the Monarch’s residence (named The Keep). In addition, the company designed and built the Minuet Lovett Memorial Lyceum and oversaw the renovation and expansion of Lovett House, the executive building containing the government’s ministries and accommodations for the House of Firsts and the House of Commons.

Burke House

The main residence for Burke Steading. Modeled after Evergreen Plantation in Louisiana (built 1790, remodeled 1835). It is known for the two sweeping staircases to the second floor sleeping rooms’ balcony.

Burke, Kaitland Alba (Kati)

Co-founder in 0002 E.T., with her two siblings, of Three Sisters city in NWT. Kaitland is the youngest and least intellectual of the three. Like her sisters, she has thick, curly, shoulder-length, India-ink-black hair and Prussian-blue eyes. Her siblings are Kirtland Alba Burke Lovett and Kourtland Alba Burke. Trigger is her Clydesdale mare’s name.

Burke, Kourtland Alba (Pooki)

Co-founder in 0002 E.T., with her two siblings, of Three Sisters city in NWT. Kaitland is the middle and the most beautiful of the three. Burning Man Steading

A steading belonging to Joseph and Lily Aikman. It is located on the northern bank of the Raimbault River in East Farthing Quadrant not far from the foothills of The Avalons. Named in honor of the burns Joseph acquired when he threw a highly combustible, indigenous bush into the family’s campfire at the site of their steading.

Byrne, Sire Charleston (Charli)

Calamity Sea

Extremely rough, dangerous waters surrounding the island of Elba, including the Barrier Reach. It is the breeding and hunting grounds of Grim Reapers and E-sharks.

Caliphate, The

The Muslim political entity which originally included the countries of Maldives, Mauritania, Tunisia, Somalia, Afghanistan, Iran Western Sahara, Yemen, Algeria, Morocco, Niger, Comoros, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Palestine, Jordan, Sudan, Libya, Djibouti, Mayotte, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Senegal, Iraq, Gambia, Kosovo, Mali, Turkmenistan, Bangladesh and Egypt that engaged in war against the remainder of the world. It began on the morning of September 11, 2107 with the detonation of nuclear weapons in multiple countries and ended on July 20, 2109, when the last Mujahedeen member surrendered to military leaders of the United Nations.

Capital Crimes

One of the five crimes on Enya that subjects the perpetrator to banishment on the island of Elba. The five crimes are: murder, rape, human trafficking, gross bodily injury and material assistance in the com-mission of a capital crime.

Carpenter, Dr. LoriLyn

A physician working at XRH. Assistant to, and cohab of, Dr. Julian Hardesty. Member of the nine-person committee researching forms of government. They were colloquially known as “The Terminators.” Inducted into the Order of Enya as a knight by Queen Friday I in 0015.

Carport

A facility located outside of or on the outskirts of a city for storage or repair of air cars, which are banned within all city limits.

CeeDee

CeeDee River

A distributary of the Aragon River in Xanadu Quadrant that flows southward from the Aragon River through Sherwood Forest to the Great Southwestern Ocean. Named after Cheyenne Dawn Lovett.

Cephas Kennard Street

A street in the city of Three Sisters where a grocery store, The Mercado, was located.

Chase, Cadence (Cade)

Administrative Assistant to the head of ECC’s Department of Land Management.

Clearment

The primary construction material for buildings and streets, it is a transparent material, which can be colored as desired and is not only fireproof but nearly indestructible.

Cohab(ater)

One or more individuals who have signed a cohabitation contract with another individual or individuals; not to be confused with a Union Partnership.

Cohabitation Contract

The contract between two or more individuals (gender and familial status irrelevant) outlining relationships between or among its cohabitees. There are only four required stipulations: (1) an expiration date, (2) children must be supported equally by the biological parents until the child is 16, (3) property held before execution of the contract retain is by its owner and (4) common property is divided equally if and when the contract lapses. Contracts must be registered with Civil Court and The Vital Statistics Division of the Human Services Department. Cohabitation replaced civil and religious marriages on Earth.

Coldsprings Whiskey

An expensive, blended whiskey from Earth considered by Jefferson Lincoln Kellogg to be the best alcoholic drink.

Comet Ximena

A comet which entered the Intipa Awachan system from another star system. Its original path took it close to Intipa Awachan and then out of the system; however, gravitational attractions modified the orbit and its dust tail enveloped Enya for 39 days. The tail contained deadly microbes from an alien biological laboratory created during an interplanetary war a million years before in another, far-distant star system. Its discoverer, Dr. Sydney Mendeola, named the comet after his maternal grandmother.

Commband

A personal communications device worn on the wrist. Controlled either manually or verbally, it displays text message, projects holographic images or allows the wearer to communicate verbally. The commband replaced mobile phones early in Earth’s twenty-second century.

Congo River

The longest river in the African Administrative Zone (once known as the continent Africa) after the Nile River. It is over 4,000 kilometers in length and its discharge volume is second only to the Amazon River.

Constitution

The document which delineates the characteristics, powers and limitations of Enya’s government. It is composed of seven Articles.

Constitutional Council

The five people chosen to write Enya’s constitution in 0013 E.T., consisted of Dr. Kai Ohai, Judge Randolph Field, Virginia LaCroix, Andrea Whittaker and Stephen Hoage.

Coriolis Caye

Largest of the seven islands that make up the Ommadawn Archipelago.

Coronation

The ceremony which celebrates an individual’s accession to the position of monarch; it is important to note that coronation may occur separate from and subsequent to the individual’s investiture.

Corporal (CPL)

The rank in the Security Section of the Ministry of Operations that is senior to Lane Corporal and junior to Sergeant.

Cotillion

A gathering held on the 15^th of every month to celebrate the coming of age of a male or female turning 16 in that calendar month. It is composed of several sections:

1. Initial introduction of the débutant(e);

2. Introduction of the débutant(e)’s junior escort;

3. The formal bow/curtsy;

4. The Walkabout (débutant(e) thanks those in the audience who have a special relationship to him/her);

5. The Interrupted Waltz: a short dance period (the senior escort breaks in on the junior partner who is the débutant(e)’s initial dance partner);

6. Introduction of the senior escort;

7. The débutant(e) and the senior escort finish the dance;

8. The declaration of the débutant(e)’s choice of his/her last name; and,

9. Dinner.

Count/Countess

The third most senior level of peerage. If the recipient of the letters patent has a Union Partner, the Partner shares the title; if the recipient of the letters patent has a cohab, the cohab does not share in the title. Cox, SGT Jazzlynne

Member of Security Section of the Ministry of Operations. Transferred to Three Sisters along with MAJ Bertina Jacobs and CPL Micah Hiide in 0018 E.T. to establish the first subordinate Security station on Enya.

Crockagator

A ferocious, indigenous predator living primarily in swampy areas but occasionally found on riverbanks. Up to 12 meters in length and can weigh 2,000 kilograms or more, it lurks around the water’s edge and preys on fish and other marine and land animals. It is the equivalent of an Earth crocodile.

Crystal Highlands

Generic name for the four mountain belts on Gaia. The Crystal Highlands are composed of the Tejas Range (northern mountain belt), the Alabaster Range (eastern mountain belt), The Avalons (southern mountain belt) and The Smokies (northern mountain belt).

Crystal Nexus

The large, ancient caldera located at the intersection of the Alabaster Range, The Smokies, the Tejas Range and The Avalons.

Curtis, Sigourney

Co-owner and co-operator, along with her cohab, Savannah Kole, of a bar in Starlight named The Last Exit.

Daily Activity Report

The official, chronological record of events that occur at a particular station, such as the Satellite Control Center. The record kept aboard Gossamer Wings, shuttles, other spacecraft or maritime vessels is called a “Ship’s Log.”

A colonist on the Second Flight. Co-owner and operator of Delesandri Downs, along with her cohab, a ranch in NWT specializing in breeding and raising Tennessee Walker horses. Mother of James Vincent Delesandri.

Delesandri, Saladin Fabio (Sal)

A colonist on the Second Flight. Father of James Vincent Delesandri. Owner and operator (along with his cohab, Madison Rye Roy Delesandri) of Delesandri Downs, a ranch in NWT specializing in breeding and raising Tennessee Walker horses.

Democratic Parliamentary Monarchy

A category of government described as led by a monarch who exercises authority in accordance with a written constitution and wherein a freely elected parliament forms and terminates the government.

DeSousa, Jillian (Jill)

One of the watchstanders in the Satellite Control Center.

Dirty Dozen, The

The name adopted by the 12 Lovett family members for themselves during their months of eluding capture in Sherwood Forest after Jefferson Lincoln Kellogg, CEO of ECC, categorized them as “traitors” and sent Security Teams to arrest them.

Duke/Duchess

Durda Deep, The

A 22,000-square-kilometer geological feature similar to Earth’s Grand Canyon located at the eastern terminus of the Alabaster Range.

Dyad

The normal, permanent Ranger team made of two Rangers.

Earl/Earless

The fifth most senior level of peerage. If the recipient of the letters patent has a Union Partner, the Partner shares the title; if the recipient of the letters patent has a cohab, the cohab does not share in the title. Not inheritable.

Earth Day

April 15^th of every year, it commemorates the death of all humans on Earth. April 15^th is the day Gossamer Wings returned to Enya with last survivors.

East Farthing Quadrant

The southeast quadrant of Gaia bordered on the north by the Alabaster Range, on the west by The Avalons and on the east by the Great Northeastern Ocean and the Great Southeastern Ocean. There are three distinct biomes in the East Farthing Quadrant: a triple-canopy jungle in the north, an old-growth forest in the center and a Serengeti-like area in the south.

E-cat

An indigenous mammal analogous to an Earth cat (Felis catus) with minor canine characteristics. Not including the tail, the E-cat is about a meter long and stands about 40 centimeters tall. The slender body sits atop four muscular legs ending in six-toed paws tipped by retractable claws. The head is triangular with cat-like whiskers extending outward 15 centimeters from either side of a wide nose. The eyes are large, almond shaped and amber, blue or green in color with black, vertical irises. The ears are pointed and furry, reminiscent of those of a German shepherd, but smaller. The short, soft fur can be mottled or monochromatic, with earth tones predominant; pure black or white fur is extremely rare. It is cathemeral in nature and omnivorous.

E-Gull

An indigenous, omnivorous, white bird with a gray head, wingtips and tail feathers found primarily on shorelines and up to 100 kilometers inland. Its wingspan can reach four meters and its body can weigh up to 10 kilograms. E-Gulls travel extremely long distances by utilizing air currents and drafts. Originally called simply a “seagull,” the term “E-Gull” slowly came to be the preferred name. Found along littoral zones throughout Enya.

Elba

A large island south of East Farthing Quadrant, it is comprised of thick, evergreen forests; undulating plains; numerous spring-fed lakes and a medium-sized mountain range on the north. It is surrounded by The Calamity Sea and is separated from the Land’s End peninsula by the Barrier Reach. Individuals found guilty of one of the capital crimes on Enya are transported to Elba and left.

Elderwoods, The

A forest in the center portion of East Farthing Quadrant composed primarily of Elderwood trees. It is bordered on the north by the Elder River and on the south by the Raimbault and the Tamara rivers.

Elvira River

A branch of the Aragon River in Xanadu Quadrant that flows southwesterly until it empties into the Great Southwestern Ocean.

Enya

The third planet orbiting the star Intipa Awachan (originally HP 56948) in the constellation Draco, approximately 200 light years from Earth. It is an Earth twin discovered by the Snyder Enterprises’ Exo-planet Survey Team and is the site of humankind’s first interstellar colony. Enya was named after Daniel Woodhouse Snyder’s deceased cohab, Enya Laertes Snyder. Enya’s mean radius is 6,000 km, its equatorial radius is 6,006 km, the polar radius is 5,986 km and its equatorial circumference is 37,699.1 km. The total surface area is 453,385,000 km² and has a volume is 904,778,642,228 km³. Enya’s Sidereal rotation period is 26 hours, its orbital period (Julian year) is 420 days and its axial tilt is 12.7 degrees. The minimum surface temperature is 0º Celsius, the maximum temperature is 45º Celsius, and the average temperature is 22º Celsius.

Enya Colonization Corporation (ECC)

Organization created by Daniel Woodhouse Snyder to colonize the planet Enya. Anderson Winchester Lovett was its first CEO. After Anderson’s death from The Sickness, Steve Hoage became the CEO, and was, in turn, replaced by Jefferson Kellogg in the election of May 05, 0008 E.T. The corporation was dissolved on January 01, 0016 E.T. and replaced by a democratic parliamentary monarchy headed by Friday Lyn Lovett, who was crowned Queen Friday the First on August 21, 0017 E.T.

Enyanite

A metamorphic rock that exists in two forms: White and Black and is Enya’s version of Earth’s marble. White Enyanite almost perfectly replicates Earth’s Pentelic marble from Mount Pentelicus in the now-extinct country of Greece. Black Enyanite duplicates Earth’s Nero Marquina marble found in the north of the now-extinct country of Spain, but without white tendrils. The three most notable similarities between Enyanite and marble are that it polishes to a high luster, is translucent and neutralizes acid. The biggest difference is that Enyanite has a Mohs hardness number of six rather than marble’s three. The Wall of Memories in Gossamer Greens is made from Black Enyanite and the Wall of Honor in the same Gossamer Greens is made from White Enyanite. Enyanite is found only in the Outback Quadrant within Stone Mountain Steading.

E-pedia, The

Originally named The Data Project, the E-pedia is a database of information gleaned from numerous data systems on Earth designed to be a “human encyclopedia” of knowledge for the colonists to take with them to Enya. The “investigators” involved in accumulating the entries destined for the E-pedia were indiscriminate in their data mining and often hacked secure systems and added their contents to the project. The E-pedia is accessible from any Infotainment Room or commband utilizing RelSats. The entirety of the E-pedia is located in a massive memory bank in the basement of the Executive Building and parceled out piecemeal to every other memory system (Infotainment Rooms, commbands and PADDs) on Enya for safety.

Eryk

The middle-sized of the three moons orbiting Enya. It was named after Daniel Woodhouse Snyder and Enya Laertes Snyder’s middle daughter.

Eryn

The smallest of the three moons orbiting Enya. It was named after Daniel Woodhouse Snyder and Enya Laertes Snyder’s youngest daughter.

Escort, Junior

A débutant(e)’s initial partner in the Interrupted Waltz segment of a Cotillion.

Escort, Senior

A débutant(e)’s final partner in the Interrupted Waltz segment of a Cotillion.

E-Shark

An indigenous predator equivalent to the long-extinct Megalodon (Otodus megalodon) that became extinct during the Pliocene era, approximately 2.5 million years B.C.E. Ranging in size up to 30 meters and weighing up to 30.5 kilograms, the E-Shark is the pinnacle of the ocean food chain. This vicious carnivore is found in all oceans on Enya but, because of it immense size, is restricted to the deeper areas. E-Sharks are plentiful, however, in the Barrier Reach and the Calamity Sea surrounding the island of Elba.

Esplanade, The

A broad walkway connecting Lovett House and The Keep. Large gardens composed of both indigenous plants and plants imported from Earth.

Eternal Flame

It is a large, metal, bowl-shaped, vessel containing an always-burning flame located in the center of Eternal Lake in Gossamer Greens. A memorial originally designed to honor humankind’s search for the stars, its purpose was changed following the death of all red-blooded entities on Earth from Heininger’s Profile and now commemorates the death of all humans except for those on Enya.

Eternal Lake

The hectare-sized lake in the center of Gossamer Greens around which the Wall of Memories, the Wall of Honor and the shuttle Gossamer One are arranged.

Eveyan

The largest of the three moons orbiting Enya. It was named after Daniel Woodhouse Snyder and Enya Laertes Snyder’s oldest daughter. It has highly visible, Saturn-like rings.

E-Wolf

E-wolves are found throughout Gaia. Like the Earth wolf, E-wolves are carnivorous and hunt any animal, regardless of the prey’s size; although they usually flee from humans, some attacks have been reported. Males range in size from 152 to 200 cm from the tip of their nose to the tip of their tail and their height (at the shoulder) range from 66 to 85 cm. Females are slightly smaller. The biome in which the E-wolf lives has a large impact on coloration. Forest wolves are mottled while wolves that live in the grasslands have a greenish tint to their dorsal side and a light gray on their ventral sides.

Executive Building

The building in the center of the Executive Complex originally containing the CEO’s Suite, a large conference room and, in the underground level, the planet’s master computer. The Lovett House, as it became known, was remodeled following the establishment of a democratic parliamentary monarch.

Field, Sir Randolph (Randy)

Original Chief Justice of Enya and head of ECC’s Department of Jurisprudence. Also, a member of the BOD and a member of the nine-person committee researching forms of government, colloquially known as “The Terminators.” He became Chief Justice of the Royal Bench on January 1, 0015 E.T. Slightly overweight. Has one of Pixel’s male kittens named Calico Jack. Inducted into the Order of Enya as a knight by Queen Friday I in 0015.

Final Flight

The colloquial term for the last shuttle flight to spray Phantacide, a plant-specific herbicide, on the plant Xanadu Dreams in Xanadu Quadrant.

Finance, Ministry of

Originally the Department of Finance, it was one of ECC’s six departments and became a Ministry when Enya’s form of government was changed from a Corporatocracy to a Democratic Parliamentary Monarchy on January 1, 0015. This Ministry is responsible for all facets of fiscal policy on Enya. Sections include the Bank of Enya, Compensation Board and the Economic Council. Its departmental color is copper.

First Flight

The initial group of 7,500 colonists transported to Enya in 2238 C.E. aboard the colony ship Gossamer Wings.

First Officer

The second in command of a mobile command in the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces.

The individual or entity which has the authority to issue Letters of Patent, which is the act that bestows a peerage.

Fullbright, Sire Domino

Pilot of the shuttle Gossamer Four. Inducted into the Order of Enya as a knight by Queen Friday I in 0015.

Gaia

The largest of the three continents on Enya, it covers 80% of one entire hemisphere and has an area of approximately 181,354,058 km². Four mountain ranges intersect at the Crystal Nexus and divide Gaia into four unequal quadrants: Northwest Territory, Outback, Xanadu and East Farthing.

Glinda

Godzillapede

A large, indigenous, centipedal arthropod growing up to four meters in length and two meters in height.  Its hundreds of legs and “feet” are black. It has large mandibles, which move horizontally and allows the scavenger to eat detritus from the forest floor. Resembles a pale-yellow centipede crossed with a worm; frightening but harmless. Named by CeeDee Lovett.

Gossamer Greens

The 4-km² park in Starlight centered on the location of Gossamer One’s initial landing on Enya. In the center of Gossamer Greens is Eternal Lake, containing the Eternal Flame. Situated at 120º points around Eternal Lake are the Wall of Memories, the Wall of Honor and the retired shuttle Gossamer One. Originally designed to be 100 km², it was later reduced to its present size.

A 25-person shuttle built to transport colonists to and from the colony ship Gossamer Wings. Gossamer One was the first shuttle in the fleet and the first shuttle to land on Enya It is now on display in Gossamer Greens.

Gossamer Wings

The colony ship built by ECC to transport colonists to Enya. Anderson Winchester Lovett was its first captain. The name Gossamer Wings came from the large solar panels attached to the engineering and living sections of the ship that suggested an ancient, partially reconstructed, anonymous poem entitled Gossamer Wings written by an unknown author.

Gossamer Wings Poem

An ancient, partially reconstructed, anonymous poem. The most famous stanza is: “I fly in my dreams on gossamer wings, / Over castles and things and victorious kings. / Above canyons of gold and cities of old, / Where proud eagles fly and soft winds sigh.” The poem contains five additional stanzas.

Great Enyan Land Rush

The colloquial term used for the land-grant lottery held on the Living on Enya show. Each colonist pre-registered five choices (in priority order) from the total number of 3,000-hectare plots on the continent of Gaia. Fifty names were randomly drawn each evening and the winners granted the first available parcel on their list. Individuals were given seven days to register their land with the Land Grants Division of ECC’s Department of Land Management. Any parcel not registered in time was returned to the pool. At the end of the lottery, all unclaimed parcels reverted to ECC.

Great Enyan Ocean

The planet-wide ocean on Enya, divided by the equator into the Great Enyan Ocean North and the Great Enyan Ocean South. Colloquial usage calls the Great Enyan Ocean North that is to the west of Gaia the Great Northwestern Ocean and the Great Enyan Ocean North that is to the east of Gaia the Great Northeastern Ocean. Likewise, the Great Enyan Ocean South that is east of Gaia is called the Great Southeastern Ocean and the Great Enyan Ocean South that is west of Gaia is called the Great Southwestern Ocean.

Heininger’s Profile

Dr. Hobart Heininger’s name for the biobot he created to eliminate von Willebrand’s disease. The nanite had a fatal flaw: it devoured red blood cells and reproduced every 12 hours, which led to the death of every red-blooded entity on Earth.

Hellhound

An indigenous animal that resembles a Rhodesian Ridgeback from Earth. It has a short, dense, sleek and glossy coat which ranges in color from light wheaten to red wheaten. The face has a dark mask and the Hellhound’s spine has a ridge of hair formed by two whorls of hair from the shoulders to the hips. It is primarily a carnivore but will eat plants on occasion and hunts in packs of up to 20 led by an Alpha male. A ferocious mammal, it will cease attacking a target only when dead.

Hermione Freehold

A small town located on the southern boundary of Stone Mountain Steading in the Outback Quadrant created in 0003 E.T. by Beaumont Winston Lovett to house the employees of Stone Mountain Mining and Milling Company and their families.

Member of Security Section of the Ministry of Operations. Transferred to Three Sisters along with MAJ Bertina Jacobs and SGT Jazzlynne Cox in 0018 E.T. to establish the first subordinate Security station on Enya.

Hill Country

An area of gently rolling hills in Xanadu Quadrant north of the Elvira River and west of The Avalons, extending northward from the Sherwood Forest to the foothills of The Smokies and includes the Silver Woods.

The original head of EEC’s Department of Land Management. Lorién Steele relieved him when he replaced Anderson Winchester Lovett as CEO following Anderson’s death in 0001 E.T. Jefferson Lincoln Kellogg replaced Steve in turn following the election of May 05, 0008 E.T. Name of the upper house of Enya’s legislative branch of government. Eligibility for membership in the House of Firsts is restricted to individuals who were brought to Enya on Gossamer Wings’ First Flight.

An electronic device that renders any listening or communication device inoperative in a 10-meter circle centered on the device.

Impact Harbor

The crater caused by a large meteorite fall a billion years (more or less, there is some disagreement over the exact date) before the colonists arrived on the planet. From an aerial view, Impact Harbor looks like a bite was taken out of the continent’s western shoreline, leaving behind a 400-kilometer-in-diameter semicircle filled with deep, still waters that eventually escape through the mouth of Impact Harbor into the part of Great Northwestern Ocean called the Orinoco Flow. It is approximately 1,000 kilometers north of the equator in the Xanadu Quadrant at the mouth of the Brandywine River and is the site of Enya’s capital city of Starlight.

Colloquial term for a N.D., or New Dollar. See also New Dollar.

Infotainment Room

A room in an Enyan dwelling containing comfortable seats, a high-capacity, holographic projector and a beverage bar. Each Infotainment Center is connected to the E-pedia and networked with every other Infotainment Center through RelSats. Its purpose is to provide a focal point for information and entertainment.

Interrupted Waltz

The segment of a Cotillion where the débutant(e) and his/her Junior Escort begin a waltz and the Senior Escort completes it.

Intipa Awachan

A G5V star approximately 200 light years from Earth with 12 planets orbiting it. From closest orbit to furthest orbit, the planets are Ursula, Sencia, Enya, Gregoria, Pinnosa, Martha, Saula, Brittola, Sturnina, Rabacia, Saturia and Palladia. The names come from characters in Saint Ursula of the Eleven-thousand Virgins myth of Earth’s Middle Ages.

Investiture

The day which endows an individual the prescriptive right to the status of monarch; it is important to note that investiture may occur separately from and prior to the actual coronation.

A large, dazzling, white-sand beach on the southeastern coast of Coriolis Caye in the Ommadawn Archipelago.

Lovettschyr Manor

The main house on Lovettschyr Steading built in a clearing 100 meters from the banks of the CeeDee River. It is a two-story building modeled after nineteenth century English and Scottish country houses with a full-length, subterranean room that includes a garage, several storage rooms, a mechanical room (HVAC) and a deep-water well which will last the mansion’s inhabitants centuries. The first floor has a large kitchen with an eat-in breakfast nook for 12, a walk-in pantry, a gathering room with a half bath, a large formal dining room seating 22 people, a recreation room, a mud room, a library with a half bath, a foyer, an Infotainment Room and a large patio. The second floor has 10 bedrooms, each with a private bath, a walk-in closet and a balcony accessible through French doors. Floors are either Enyanite or Sequoia planking. There is a boat-house on the CeeDee River and a large garden adjacent to the covered patio. Flowerbeds, shrubs and other ornamental beds surround the manor. Designed by Rebecca Mari “Buns” Zumwalt and Cheyenne Dawn Lovett. Construction began on April 30, 0002 E.T. and was completed October 35, 0002 E.T.

Lovettschyr Steading

The 6,000-hectare steadhold of Cheyenne Dawn Lovett and Hari Paynter Rockwell. Located in the Sherwood Forest approximately 4,420 km south of Starlight, it includes a portion of the CeeDee River. “Schyr” is the ancient Scottish word for shire.

Her last name is pronounced “Meyer.” A member of the nine-person committee researching forms of government colloquially known as “The Terminators.” Became an Associate Justice on the Monarch’s Bench when Enya became a democratic parliamentary monarchy on January 1, 0015. Inducted into the Order of Enya as a knight by Queen Friday I in 0015.

Memorial Day

A holiday on September 1^st (the date of maximum deaths from The Sickness) that memorializes the deaths of colonists from the biological weapon brought to Enya by the Comet Ximena.

Lead astronomer on Enya. Discovered Comet Ximena. Died in The Sickness.

Mercado, The

A small, general merchandise store on Cephas Kinnard Street in the city of Three Sisters.

Me-Too Bird

An indigenous bird named by Cheyenne Dawn Lovett which got its name from its repetitive call, which sounds like the words “me” and “too.” Diurnal in nature, it feeds on fruits, plants, seeds and various small animals. Has a body length (sans tail) of around 60 centimeters and a weight around two kilograms. Found primarily in Sherwood Forest.

A male offspring of the E-cats Pixel and Duke who “adopted” Friday Lyn Lovett.

Minuet Lovett Memorial Lyceum (MLML)

A large building in Starlight built primarily for cotillions but also used for gatherings, lectures and musical productions. It has a large ballroom, a commercial kitchen and other amenities. It is located on the water’s edge of Impact Harbor. Colloquially, the MLML is known as “Minuet’s House.”

Mocklate (Beverage)

When the bark of the Mocklate bush is added to boiling water and the water allowed to evaporate, the residue is ground into a powder that tastes like rich, dark chocolate. The powder, often mixed into hot or cold milk or water, is a popular beverage, as ubiquitous on Enya as coffee was on Earth. Mocklate powder is also used in baking.

Indigenous shrub growing through-out Xanadu and Northwest Territory Quadrants approximately 1.5 meters tall and 2 to 3 meters wide with a thick bark that peels horizontally in curly strips which can be easily removed without injuring the plant.

Monarch’s Presence, The:

The daily headgear of the monarch, it is a simple headband composed of a bottom, 1.25 centimeter strip of White Enyanite joined to a top, 1.25 centimeter strip of Black Enyanite. Each Presence is custom made for a new Monarch and replaced as necessary. It is worn only when the Monarch is acting in an official capacity (e.g., ceremonies, meetings, etc.). When acting in a private capacity (e.g., family meals, private parties, etc.), the Presence is not worn. A crown is worn only for high-level official or ceremonial functions such as an Investiture or a holiday appearance. Designed and made by Estelle Faabian.

Monarch’s Salute

A combination of Leo Arnaud’s Bugler’s Dream and John Williams’ Olympic Fanfare and Theme which was the theme song created for the 1984 C.E. Olympics. It is used on Enya to herald the Monarch’s arrival to or departure from an official function.

The wide walkway leading to The Keep’s entrance that bisects The Bailey and is lined on both sides with Sequoia trees from Sherwood Forest.

The sultry, sloe-eyed, voluptuous Mistress of Ceremonies for the Living on Enya program.

A member of the Security Team who accompanied Jefferson Kellogg into Sherwood Forest to search for the Lovetts.

Nomenclature Council

Originally a division of ECC’s Department of Land Management responsible for approving and recording the names of all geographical features, fauna and flora on Enya. Became a section of the Ministry of Land Management on 01/01/15. It is composed of two parts: individuals who are permanent members of the Council and those who volunteer on a rotating bass. A Steadholder may name any geological feature that exists wholly within the boundaries of his or her Steadhold; however, the name must be registered with the Council in a timely manner. The Council names any geographical feature that extends beyond one Steadhold.

Non-commissioned Officer

A category of senior enlisted personnel of a military or quasi-military organization, such as a police force, with several levels within the category.

Northfork Ranch

The first ranch in Northwest Territory Quadrant, it is located about an hours’ horse ride north of the Rodin River North. The 6,000 hectare steading normally grazes around 11,000 Buffadillos and belongs to Tom and Alicia Landry, both members of the First Flight.

Northwest Territory Quadrant

The northwest quadrant of Gaia, bounded on the south by The Smokies, on the north and west by the Great Northwestern Ocean and on the east by the Tejas Range. It is an area of deep, fecund loam and numerous rivers and streams. Because the quadrant contains the majority of Enyan farms and ranches, it is often call the “The Breadbasket of Enya.” It is colloquially known as “NWT.”

Ohai, Dr. Sir Kai Fetuilelagi

A political scientist with a doctorate from Harvard University on Earth. His dissertation was entitled Ancient and Archaic Forms of National Governing Systems Prior to the Introduction of a World Government: An Investigation into Their Schemata and the Causes of Their Ultimate Failures. Dr. Ohai was born on the island of Oahu in the extinct political sub-division called the State of Hawaii in the area of OAZ that was once a part of the now-defunct United States of America. Member of the nine-person committee researching forms of government. They were colloquially known as “The Terminators.” Cohab of Marina Haleakalā Li Ohai. Inducted into the Order of Enya as a knight by Queen Friday I in 0015.

Ommadawn Archipelago

A collection of seven small islands approximately 700 kilometers west of Impact Harbor in the Great Northwestern Ocean separated from Gaia by the Orinoco Flow. Islands in the archipelago include Coriolis Caye (the largest) which is south of Moonraker Island and east of T’gallant Isle, Moonraker Island (the northernmost island), Equator Island (the southernmost island, which is bisected by the equator), T’gallant Isle (west of Coriolis Caye), Piquoet Rock (west of Tops’l Mount and south of T’gallant Isle), Tops’l Mount (south of Coriolis Caye and north of Equator Island) and Spinnaker Bank (east of Tops’l Mount).

Order of Enya

Membership in the Order of Enya, which confers knighthood, is awarded to an individual for a specific action or a series of actions over a period of time. A male knight is called “Sir” (pronounced “sur”), and a female knight is called “Sire” (pronounced sai·ur).

Orinoco Flow

A 700-kilometer-wide body of water separating Gaia and the Ommadawn Archipelago in the Great Northwestern Ocean.

Outback Quadrant

The northeastern quadrant of Gaia. On the west side, the Tejas Range separates Outback Quadrant from NWT. On the south side is the Alabaster Range, separating the quadrant from East Farthing Quadrant, while the Great Northeastern Ocean laps at its north and east coastlines. The quadrant holds Enya’s richest mineral deposits beneath an extremely rugged and often inhospitable topography. It is the location of the only known source of Enyanite.

Paul, Sir Jean-Pierre (JPP)

Peacekeeper

Long rifle utilized by members of the United Nations’ Peacekeeping Forces. It is an outgrowth of the coil gun of the twenty-first century and utilizes ceramic magnets to propel a five-centimeter, finned dart at a muzzle velocity of 4,500 meters per second. Each magazine holds 100 darts, which are fired in either semi- or fully automatic mode. The Peacekeeper uses the same ammunition as the Peacemaker. The United Nations outlawed possession of personal weapons by civilians in 2115 C.E. On Enya, training and use of a Peacekeeper is restricted to individuals over the age of 16.

Peacemaker

Sidearm once issued to all members of the United Nations’ Peacekeeping Forces. It is an outgrowth of the coil gun of the twenty-first century and utilizes ceramic magnets to propel a five-centimeter, finned dart at a muzzle velocity of 1,500 meters per second. The Peacemaker uses the same ammunition as the Peacekeeper. The United Nations outlawed possession of personal weapons by civilians in 2115 C.E. Personal Aerial Vehicle (PAV)

Personal transportation for inter-mediate-distance trips unsuitable for foot or horse, lack of access by HyperLoop or too short a distance to justify a shuttle. There are several models: 2-person, 4-person, 6-person, 8-person, as well as aircars designed for cargo. Their maximum speed is 1,001.12 kph. An autopilot is available for use in longer trips. The solid-state processing unit, which uses molecules to process instructions, means that no main-tenance is required. A bubble canopy provides for ingress or egress. Aircars (except for ambulances and firefighting vehicles) are prohibited within city limits.

Personal Assistant Digital Device (PADD)

A combination of the desktop computer, a laptop and a tablet, it has nine terabytes of memory and a sophisticated suite of wide-ranging programs. Compact and powerful, it is ubiquitous on Enya.

Personal Rapid-Transit System (PERT)

Mode of transportation used in all cities on Enya (private, mechanical conveyances such as air cars are prohibited within city limits). Shaped like an upside-down bowl, each vehicle is guided to its destination by a computer utilizing sensors embedded in the roadway. One calls a PERT at a PERT Station and the closest, empty, appropriate-sized PERT (one to 12 passengers) is dispatched to that location to take passengers to their destination. The cargo version has a larger entrance hatch and reinforced flooring.

Petraova, Laika

Head of the Land Grants Division of ECC’s Department of Land Management.

Phantacide

A portmanteau of phantasy + cide, it is the pre- and post-emergent, systemic, selective herbicide developed by Drs. Adiemus Spandeau, Cristina Spandeau and Trinity Quinn. This herbicide, imbued with a water-based, red dye for quick identification of coverage, kills only the Xanadu Dreams plant.

Pierce, Dr. Lamont

Head of Survey Team 16 investigating a huge forest in the south of Xanadu Quadrant (subsequently named Sherwood Forest). Attempted to rape Cheyenne Dawn Lovett but died in the attempt.

The E-cat who adopted Cheyenne Dawn Lovett.

Planetary Anthem

Based on a vote of all citizens on Enya, Fanfare for the Common Man, written by Aaron Copeland in 1942 C.E., is Enya’s anthem. The specific rendition used to begin official functions is that performed by The President’s Own, a band created by the United States of America’s Marine Corps (a branch of the armed forces of the now-extinct country referred to as the United States of America) in 1798 C.E.

Presence Flag

A white pennon (a triangular flag larger at the hoist than at the fly) which is raised on the right-hand yardarm of the nautical flagpole in front of The Keep to indicate the monarch is in residence. This pennon is also flown when a monarch is aboard a maritime vessel.

Privy Council

Composed of the Prime Minister and the Ministers of the government’s ministries, it is the monarch’s primary advisory organization on matters affecting Enya. It is equivalent to the Cabinet in the United States. The monarch may appoint others to sit on the Privy Council either temporarily or permanently if their expertise is considered necessary to the proper functioning of the monarchy.

Quadrant Judge

A judge holding middle-justice authority assigned to a particular quadrant. The prospective judge is proposed by the Chief Justice and approved by the Queen.

Quarterstaff

A weapon developed during Earth’s sixteenth century. Originally a wooden staff made famous by the tales of Robin Hood, a modern-day quarterstaff is made of an almost indestructible metal and is 2.5 meter in length. While popular on Earth in the 23^rd century, it was seldom used on Enya.

Queen’s Future, The

Created in 0016 E.T. by Estelle Faabian, an amateur designer to be worn by a Crown Princess between election and coronation. The delicate, filigreed piece is set off by seven Tears of Enya from the Crystal Nexus and six pieces of Enyanite (three Black and three White).

Raimbault River

The longest river in East Farthing Quadrant, it originates in The Avalons and initially flows eastward but turns northward into the depths of Black Death Ground. It then turns south until it splits into the Tamara River and the Tiara River. The Raimbault River and the Tamara River form the southern border of The Elderwoods while the Raimbault River and the Tiara River form the northern border of The New Serengeti.

Ration Package

A 3,000-calorie food package with an extra-long shelf life designed to provide three meals for one person per day. Each comes in a brown and green, biodegradable bag made of cellulose. Also known as a RatPak.

Regency Council

Created in 0015 E.T. to run Enya until Friday Lovett becomes of age and could be coronated on August 21, 0017. The Council was composed of Cheyenne Dawn Lovett (Friday’s guardian), Steve Hoage, Hari Rockwell, Judge Randolph Field and Dr. Julian Hardesty.

Relay Satellites (RelSats)

A satellite that receives the energy produced by a SolSat and retransmits that power to Enya’s surface. RelSats also incorporate a Global Positioning System (GPS) transmitter; equipment to make meteorological observations and forecasts; a high-resolution, steerable camera; and a communications relay system for PADDs and commband units.

Rescue Run

A name given to the voyage of Gossamer Wings to pick up the survivors on space stations L-4 and L-5, and the moon bases Clarke and Heinlein in 0001 E.T., following the death of all red-blooded life on Earth.

Rhodesian Ridgeback

A dog (Canis lupus familiaris) from the African Administrative Zone on Earth. The Ridgeback weighs from 28 to 31 kilograms (75 to 85 pounds) and stands between 24 and 27 centimeters (60 to 68 inches) tall. Its hair can be any shade of wheaten, from pale flaxen to burnished red. A ridge of backward-facing hair down its spine is the distinct feature that gives the breed its name.

The daughter of Cheyenne Dawn Lovett and Hari Paynter Rockwell, she is named after her maternal grandmother. Born on the ancient holiday of Halloween, October 31, Mini seemed to have some of the characteristics of a witch and her family occasionally called her “Glinda,” after the Good Witch of the South in L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Some of her traits that led to her nickname include, but not limited, to: she keeps a detailed journal of her life that her siblings have christened The Great Book of Records, occasionally exhibits amazingly accurate prescience and is aware of many facts considered above her physical age.

Rodin River

A large river in NWT that flows over 3,000 kilometers from the Tejas Range to Burke’s Bay. Approximately 780 km from Burke’s Bay it branches into the Rodin River North and the Rodin River South.

A branch of the Rodin River in NWT which flows north and west until it terminates in Burke’s Bay.

Royal Adjure

The term used to indicate an edict from the Crown. Can be withdrawn by a super majority (75%) of votes in both the House of Commons and the House of Firsts.

Satellite Control Center (SCC)

The control center for RelSats and SolSats that is located in Starlight. It monitors and controls all satellites in orbit around Enya and schedules hands-on maintenance actions and repairs. Manned around the clock, it is staffed by one individual on a four-section, six-and-a-half hour shift.

SeaSilk

Also known as Byssus Cloth, SeaSilk is an expensive material made from a bundle of filaments secreted by bivalve mollusks which attaches the mollusk to a solid surface. The filaments are removed and made into a thin, soft fabric that, because of the difficulties involved in finding the mollusks and processing the filaments, is extremely expensive. If soaked in lemon juice, SeaSilk attains a permanent, golden color. Clothes made from SeaSilk are airy, light and extremely comfortable, all attributes highly prized on a planet with only a 12.7-degree axis tilt. Although plentiful, the manufacturing process is lengthy and complicated.

The follow-on, 6,755 colonists transported to Enya aboard the colony ship Gossamer Wings following The Sickness.

Seneschal

The manager of the of The Keep’s staff, ensuring the monarch’s residence runs efficiently and efficiently.

Sequoia Tree

An indigenous, long-lived, evergreen tree that can reach heights of 200 meters with trunks 10 meters (or more) in diameter. Its bark is felt-like and difficult to damage. The leaves are white and green, variegated, roughly circular in shape and are up to 30 centimeters in diameter. It is highly prized for its fine-textured, dense, very hard interior wood identical to Earth’s Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa). Sequoia wood gives off a strong odor reminiscent of freshly baked bread when cut.

The senior non-commissioned rank in the Security Section of the Ministry of Operations.

Shepherd Moons

The colonists’ name for when all three of Enya’s moons, Eryk, Eryn and Eveyan, are visible simultaneously.

Sherwood Forest

A huge forest in the southernmost area of Xanadu Quadrant primarily composed of Sequoia trees shading the forest floor. Bordered by the Great Southwestern Ocean on the south and west, it extends northward until it segues into the Hill Country in the area of the Aragon River.

Shuttle

A 25-person space vehicle built to transport colonists from Gateway to Gossamer Wings and then from Gossamer Wings to Enya. Gossamer One was the first shuttle in the fleet, the first shuttle to land on Enya and is now a part of Gossamer Greens. After landing on Enya, shuttles are used for long-distance travel, emergency medical response and to continue seeding the space around Enya with RelSats.

Shuttle Operations Center (SOC)

Co-located with the SCC in Starlight, the SOC controls all shuttle operations.

Sickness, The

The name bestowed by the survivors on the period some six months after landing on Enya when a mysterious disease killed all but 1,125 of the 7,500 original colonists. Although the colonists discovered the source of the pandemic (the ruins of a biological laboratory on the nucleus of Comet Ximena built millions of years previously by a now-extinct, alien race), they never made the connection between the source and the illness.

The title given to a male member of the Order of Enya, pronounced “sur.”

The title given to a female member of the Order of Enya, pronounced “sai·ur.”

Smokies, The

One of the four main mountain ranges of the Crystal Highlands, it extends westward from the Crystal Nexus almost to the Great Northwestern Ocean and forms the southern border of NWT and the northern border of Xanadu Quadrant.

Cohab of Enya Laertes Snyder and father of Eryk, Eveyan and Eryn Snyder Martin. President and CEO of Snyder Enterprises. Earth’s first trillionaire who used his wealth to spearhead the colonization of Enya.

Solar Satellites (SolSat)

A solar satellite generates electricity using vast solar panels and transmits that power to RelSats for distribution. There will eventually be eight SolSats in orbit around Enya: four above the North Pole and four above the South Pole.

The space station in a Lissajous orbit at Earth’s Lagrange Point 4. Constructed in 2210 C.E., Station L-4 was a scientific and medical research laboratory with a normal population of 173 individuals (scientists, administrators, service and military personnel). Station L-4 orbits a point in space 384,900 kilometers from Earth and ahead of the Moon by the same distance. The Rescue Run of February, 0002 E.T. evacuated it’s personnel.

Space Station L-5

The space station in a Lissajous orbit at Earth’s Lagrange Point 5. Constructed in 2215, Station L-5 was a scientific and medical research laboratory with a normal population of 161 individuals (scientists, administrators, service and military personnel). Station L-5 orbited a point in space 384,900 kilometers from Earth and behind the Moon by the same distance. It was evacuated of personnel during the Rescue Run of February, 0002 E.T.

Spaghetti Factory, The

An area just south of The Smokies and west of The Avalons in Xanadu Quadrant containing seven small streams or creeks that make up the headwaters of the Brandywine River and Looking Glass Lake. Survey Team 23 proposed the following names for them (subsequently approved by the Nomenclature Council): Vermicelli Creek, Rivo Ziti, Lasagna Run, Linguine Beck, Macaroni Brook, Orzo Burn and Gnocchi Branch.

St. James, Sir Vallejo

Pilot of the shuttle Gossamer Two. Inducted into the Order of Enya as a knight by Queen Friday I in 0015.

Star, Gloria Argent

The first Seneschal or majordomo of The Keep, the monarch’s home. Was recommended to Queen Friday I by Chef Atheron Saia of the Xanadu Regional Hospital.

Starlight Field

An area just outside Starlight in close proximity to the Shuttle Operations Center where shuttles depart and arrive. It has facilities to house and maintain the shuttles.

Starlight, City of

The capital city of Enya established on January 1, 0001 E.T. at the initial landing site of the shuttle Gossamer One near the junction of the Brandywine River and Impact Harbor in Xanadu Quadrant. It is about the same distance (1,000 kilometers) from the equator as Panama City, Republic of Panama.

Steadhold

The improvements (buildings, barns, storage units, etc.) erected on the land composing a steading.

Steadholder

Owner of a 3,000-hectare steading.

Steading

A 3,000-hectare section of land belonging to an individual chosen during the “Great Enyan Land Rush” lottery. The steading is passed on to a descendant chosen by the incumbent Steadholder.

Steele, Sire Lorién Valinor

Replaced Stephen Hoage as head of ECC’s Department of Land Management following The Sickness. Replaced by Charles Yates in election of May 05, 0008 E.T. Became Minister of Land Management on January 01, 0015. Inducted into the Order of Enya as a knight by Queen Friday I in 0015.

Stone Mountain Mining and Milling Company

The company created by Beaumont Winston Lovett to mine the minerals, especially Black and White Enyanite, located in Stone Mountain Steading in the Outback Quadrant. The employees of this company live in Hermione Freehold, established by Beaumont Winston Lovett on the border of Stone Mountain Steading.

Stone Mountain Steading

The 3,000-hectare steading of Beaumont Winston Lovett and Kirtland Alba Burke Lovett located in The Badlands of Outback Quadrant, named after Anderson Winchester Lovett’s (Beaumont’s father) favorite alcoholic beverage, Stone Mountain whiskey. It is the only known source of both White and Black Enyanite. The main residence is called Haven House.

Tater

An indigenous root vegetable that is the Enyan equivalent of an Earth potato. It has identical nutritional values and consistency after cooking as a potato but possesses various subtle flavors depending upon its harvest location. Taters from around Looking Glass Lake have a hint of garlic when cooked, whereas those from Sherwood Forest taste of extra-sharp Cheddar cheese.

An almost indestructible material used for boots and certain items of clothing.

Tears of Enya

The tear-shaped, lightning-induced, volcanic spherules found on the floor of the ancient caldera called the Crystal Nexus at the junction of the four main mountain ranges on Gaia. They are found in red, blue, yellow, orange, green, indigo, violet and (the rarest) black. They are also known as Crystal Tears or Nexus Tears.

Terminators, The

A group of nine individuals charged with researching and choosing the form of Enyan government that would replace the ECC. Composed of the following: Dr. LoriLynn Carpenter, Judge Randolph Field, Stephen Hoage, Virginia LaCroix, Judge Sandia Meijar, Dr. Kai Ohai, Sheena Weston, Andrea Whittaker and Rebecca Zumwalt.

Texas Dip

An extremely difficult curtsy done by some débutantes at their Cotillion, usually restricted to those individuals born in the extinct political subdivision of Texas in the country once known as the United States of America.

Three Sisters Station

The HyperLoop terminal in the city of Three Sisters in the Northwest Territory Quadrant. It is multi-storied with arrivals, departures and cargo handling facilities on separate levels. Although there are some minor differences on the outside, it had the same sweeping steps leading to the entrance and the same window treatments as Starlight Station. The largest difference was in the material covering the exterior: White Enyanite from Beaumont Lovett’s Stone Mountain Steading in Outback Quadrant was paired with wood from Sherwood Forest’s Sequoia trees.

Three Sisters Steading

The 9,000-hectare land grant in NWT composed of the combined steadholds awarded to the three sisters, Kaitland Alba Burke, Kirtland Alba Burke Lovett and Kourtland Alba Burke during the Great Enyan Land Rush. The steading is on the shores of Burke’s Bay.

Three Sisters, City of

A city located where the Rodin River North empties into Burke’s Bay in NWT. It is the major intermodal transportation point for shipments from farms and ranches in the Plains of Rodin. The three sisters, Kaitland Alba Burke, Kirtland Alba Burke Lovett and Kourtland Alba Burke established the city in 0002 E.T.

Throne Room

A large room on the second floor of The Keep used for official functions such as awarding knighthood and ennoblement, audiences or any other function desired by the monarch.

Tigger

The stuffed animal in the shape of a Bengal Tiger that Minuet Lovett Rockwell-Lovett carries around and sleeps with.

Tubular Bells

An indigenous plant with fragrant, colorful flowers found on the edges of clearings and around fresh water. The stalks can reach five meters and be up to 10 centimeters in diameter; the flowers appear as bells hanging down in masses of as many as 100 individual blooms. The petals are a deep, royal purple with gold streaks on the inside and have a dozen black stamens tightly packed which look like a bell clapper. Each individual flower is 15 to 20 centimeters in diameter and can be as long as 30 centimeters. There are two types of Tubular Bells: Alpha, which has individual stalks; and Beta, which is the scandent version. The Beta version produces more blooms than the Alpha does, lasts longer and produces a more pleasing and longer-lasting fragrance.

Uniform, Dress

One of the three types of uniforms worn by members of the Security Section of the Ministry of Operations. The other two are the Field Uniform and the Working (day-to-day) Uniform. The Dress Uniform is worn only on formal occasions and consists of a double-breasted jacket over a white turtleneck undergarment, rank insignia placed on a shoulder strap on the wearer’s right upper chest and trousers. The trousers are black while the jacket is deep blue. High-gloss, Oxford-style, black shoes are worn with the Dress Uniform.

Uniform, Field

One of the three types of uniforms worn by members of the Security Section of the Ministry of Operations. The other two are the Dress Uniform and the Working (day-to-day) Uniform. Modeled after the UNPF(G) battle dress, the Field Uniform is a one-piece, waterproof, long-sleeved garment replete with pressure-sealed pockets and high-topped, bloused boots. The field uniform’s camouflage pattern automatically responds to the wearer’s surroundings and blends in with every environment, such as forest, desert, grassland or snow. In addition, the uniform maintains a constant, adjustable temperature as chosen by the wearer and is effective from ambient temperatures between -50ºC and +38º C.

Uniform, Working

One of the three types of uniforms worn by members of the Security Section of the Ministry of Operations. The other two are the Dress Uniform and Field Uniform. The Working Uniform is the same garment worn by the colonists before they left Earth: a deep blue Unigarment with a stylized gold and blue dragon taking up the right side from the shoulder to just above the waist. A nametag on the left breast with the individual’s last name is situated above one of the numerous pressure-sealed pockets on both the torso and legs of the Unigarment. A black belt encircles the wearer’s waist and the same black boots worn with the Field Uniform for footwear completes the uniform.

Unigarment

Name of a popular garment on 23^rd Century Earth. It was a twin to it’s predecessors: coveralls and jumpsuits.

Union Partnership

The twenty-third century’s term for the two individuals who have bound themselves together in an open-ended manner previously known as a “marriage.” A Union is a more permanent and a more personal relationship than cohabitation and is a much rarer occurrence; dissolution of a Union is even rarer. Union partners cannot enter into a cohabitation contract during the union. A Union has no set ending date and further restricts activities of the Partners outside the Union. Anderson Winchester Lovett and Minuet Ono Hays Lovett were in a Union Partnership as well as Hari Paynter Rockwell and Cheyenne Dawn Lovett. During the reign of Queen Friday, Union Partnerships reverted to the original concept of civil marriage.

United Nations

The planet-wide government imposed on Earth in 2109 C.E. following the Great Jihad of 2106–2107 C.E.

United Nations Peacekeeping Forces (UNPF)

Once the military arm of the now-defunct United Nations, it had four branches: Space, Ground, Air and Navy. UNPF(S) uniforms were black and gold. UNPF(G) uniforms were brown and gold. UNPF(A) were light blue and gold and UNPF(N) uniforms were dark blue and gold. Light-blue berets and high-topped boots were worn with the uniform. Various types of camouflage uniforms were worn when necessary. A Peacemaker and two additional magazines, an Individual Survival Kit and a mini-PADD were standard equipment.

Universal Replicator Matrix

Developed by the P⁵ Group in 2155 C.E., the URM (or copier) is an outgrowth of twenty-first century 3D and 4D printers. The URM produces a duplicate item using a master matrix stored in “memory sticks.” A scan of the original item creates a “blueprint” saved on a “memory stick” and this matrix creates an exact copy. While changes to the scan are possible, it requires a specially trained technician to personalize the item and is, therefore, an unusual occurrence. Scans and duplication can require several minutes, hours or days depending on the item’s complexity. There are four sizes of URMs: small, medium, large and very large. Each size contains the “blueprint” for all other sizes. Although the URM can create food, none of it has any nutritional value. The URM uses any material to construct a duplicate but users normally restrict themselves to unusable items or ones no longer required. The URM evaluates raw materials inputted into the URM and that amount is credited to the individual’s bank account; likewise, the cost of an item is debited from that same account.

Vanilla Grass

The Enyan equivalent of Earth’s grass. It is bright green and the stalks are triangular with a pointed (but soft) apex. It seldom grows higher than 10 centimeters. Vanilla Grass produces a robust fragrance identical to the flavoring spice of the same name that intensifies when the stalks are crushed.

VibraTool

A sonic knife with an electronic blade of varying lengths. The standard blade is less than a molecule thick and can cut through all but the toughest materials. When activated, the VibraTool emits a piercing, 100-decibel wail to warn the user and anyone close that it is energized. A button on the tool’s handle extends or withdraws the blade.

Viscount/Viscountess

The fourth most senior level of peerage. If the recipient of the letters patent has a Union Partner, the Partner shares the title; if the recipient of the letters patent has a cohab, the cohab does not share in the title. Not inheritable.

Waggon, Sire Conestoga (Conni)

Wall of Honor

A wall constructed of Black Enyanite engraved in four-centimeter-high, white letters in chronological/ alphabetical order with the names of individuals who either distinguished themselves by a significant contribution to the planet, died while exploring Enya or during a mission important to the future of the planet or humankind, or who perished during The Sickness Additional names are proposed each year and voted upon by all Enyans who have reached the Age of Emancipation.

Wall of Memories

A four-meter-tall wall made of White Enyanite upon which is engraved in four-centimeter-high, black letters in alphabetical order by last name, the full name of every First Flight colonist, every Second Flight colonist and those saved by the Rescue Run.

Wetting-Down Party

An informal celebration of an individual’s promotion to a higher military rank. It is usually attended by friends of the promotee(s). Although the cost of the celebration is usually borne by the promotee(s), it is occasionally funded by a superior(s) as a sign of respect.

Xanadu Dreams

A highly addictive, hallucinogenic drug that immerses the user in an individually specific, erotic state causing intense, multiple orgasms. The indigenous, non-flowering, blue-green bryophyte that induces these fantasies was discovered by Cheyenne Dawn Lovett and is found only in Sherwood Forest. A user typically drinks a “Xanadu Cocktail” made by drying the non-flowering bryophyte, crushing it into a powder and mixing it with the right amount of fluid then drinking it as though it were an aperitif. Xanadu Dreams can also be burned and the smoke inhaled, but this method of ingestion is impossible to conceal and therefore relatively rare. Harvesting, using or possessing Xanadu Dreams was declared illegal in 0008 E.T.

Xanadu Quadrant

The southwest quadrant of Gaia, bordered on the north by The Smokies, on the east by The Avalons and on the west and south by the Great Northwestern Ocean and the Great Southwestern Ocean, respectively. The quadrant is com-posed of three major landforms: the Sherwood Forest in the south, the Hill Country in the center and The Silver Woods to the east.

Xanadu Regional Hospital (XRH)

A 200-bed facility completed in 0010 E.T. and located adjacent to the Starlight Medical Center in the city of Starlight, Xanadu Quadrant. It is a three story, 46,452 m² building with a White and Black Enyanite exterior donated by the Stone Mountain Mine and Milling Company, headed by Beaumont Winston Lovett. Originally used as a rehabilitation center for Xanadu Dreams addicts, it provides medical care for patients who need a higher level of care than provided by the Starlight Medical Center. The principal architect and contractor was Rebecca Mari Zumwalt. Chef Atheron Saia runs the hospital’s kitchen.
